Remaining Relative Visa

The Remaining Relative Visa (Subclass 115) is a permanent visa designed for individuals who are the only remaining member of their immediate family living outside Australia and who have close relatives residing in Australia as citizens, permanent residents, or eligible New Zealand citizens.

Remaining Relative Visa 115
This visa enables individuals to move to Australia to live with their only close relative, who must be a settled Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen. It provides an opportunity to reunite families and ease the emotional strain of long-term separation. This visa is particularly suitable for older parents or siblings who have no other close family remaining in their home country.

Eligibility Requirements for a Remaining Relative Visa
To apply for the Subclass 115 Remaining Relative Visa, the applicant must meet the following criteria:

  • Be the only remaining close relative of an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen
  • Reside outside Australia at the time of application and at the time a decision is made
  • Have an Assurance of Support provided by the Australian relative, confirming their ability to offer financial assistance
  • Meet health and character requirements

The sponsor must:

  • Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen
  • Be settled in Australia
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Not have previously sponsored someone under a Remaining Relative Visa (Subclass 115 or 835), a Preferential Family Visa (Subclass 104), or a Family Visa (Subclass 806)

Benefits of the Remaining Relative Visa 115
In addition to reuniting with your family in Australia, the Subclass 115 Remaining Relative Visa offers several long-term benefits, including:

  • The right to live in Australia permanently
  • Permission to work and study in Australia
  • The ability to travel in and out of Australia for five years (after which, a Resident Return Visa is required to re-enter as a permanent resident)
  • Access to Australia’s public healthcare system (Medicare)
  • The option to include eligible family members in your visa application
