Return Resident Visa

If you are a permanent resident of Australia planning to travel overseas, the Resident Return Visa (RRV) allows you to re-enter Australia after your travel facility has expired. Available under Subclasses 155 and 157, this visa provides the flexibility to travel in and out of Australia multiple times until the travel validity period ends, offering peace of mind to permanent residents. Before applying, you must hold a valid passport and meet the eligibility requirements.

Return Resident Visa
The Resident Return Visa helps you maintain your status as an Australian permanent resident by allowing you to travel to and from Australia after your original permanent visa’s travel facility has expired. With a valid passport, this visa provides the flexibility to re-enter Australia as a permanent resident, whether you are a current or former permanent visa holder, or a former Australian citizen.

By securing a Resident Return Visa, you ensure uninterrupted access to the rights and benefits of permanent residency. The travel facility granted under this visa varies depending on your individual circumstances, offering flexibility for both short-term and long-term travel plans.

Eligibility Requirements for a Return Resident Visa
To apply for a Resident Return Visa, you must hold a valid passport and meet specific criteria to maintain or regain your status as an Australian permanent resident. You may be eligible if you are:

  • An Australian permanent resident
  • A former Australian permanent resident whose last permanent visa was not cancelled
  • A former Australian citizen who lost or renounced citizenship (note: individuals who have never held Australian citizenship are not eligible)

Additional Considerations:

  • Temporary visa holders may qualify if they were previously permanent residents or Australian citizens
  • Applicants must meet residence requirements or demonstrate substantial ties of benefit to Australia
  • You must satisfy character requirements and must not have had a visa cancelled or a previous application refused

Benefits of the Remaining Relative Visa 115

  • Maintains your permanent resident status, even if you have spent extended periods outside Australia, including for former Australian citizens.
  • Provides flexibility to travel and re-enter Australia as a permanent resident.
  • Supports the continuation of strong ties to Australia, such as residency, family connections, employment, or cultural links.
  • Offers travel validity periods tailored to individual circumstances, allowing you to meet personal or professional commitments while preserving your permanent residency.
